Spring has Sprung at YGP’s After School Program!

YGP’s spring After School Program is in full swing! Each Wednesday and Thursday 1st-3rd graders and 4-6th graders have been spending time at the Youth Garden Project after school. Amidst exploring the garden and free play, the kids have been enjoying planting and caring for all kinds of spring crops!  They have planted peas in our trellis tunnels, beets and carrots in the garden rows, lettuce in the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) plot, and more! So far one of their favorite tasks has been watering the germinating beds throughout the garden. They take turns filling the watering can at the spigot, and shower the beds gently and with care. Some of our other highlights have been discovering weeds that look like mini Dr. Seuss trees, finding TONS of earthworms (and even a huge centipede!) while digging around in the beds, and conquering hard-to-pull weeds from the garlic rows in the CSA!

Those of you who have signed up for our CSA shares or plan to attend the first Farmers’ Market on May 5th are in for a treat! A lot of our first round of garden produce will have been home-grown and cared for by Moab’s youth!
