The Youth Garden Project offers a variety of volunteer opportunities in areas such as teaching, garden maintenance, construction, and special events. All volunteers qualify for YGP's Work for Food program, where for every hour donated, volunteers recive $5 of fresh produce. Below are examples of volunteering opportunities at the garden. To find out more information about the Work for Food program and how you can become a Youth Garden volunteer, call us at 435-259-BEAN (2326).
Teaching Opportunities
YGP loves to incorporate the knowledge and abilities of volunteers into the high school class, which teaches students the basics of gardening for a science and community service credit. Whether you have a special talent (e.g. cooking, crafts, construction, entomology) or would just like to be a teacher's aide, your help would be appreciated. YGP would especially appreciate volunteer help with the high school class on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:15-11:30 on its garden work days.
The Kids' Garden Summer Club is a full day, five day/week summer camp open to children ages 6-11.
Garden Maintenance
From weeding to planting and watering to harvesting, there are plenty of opportunities to help out with everyday garden duties for those who like to be out in the sun getting their hands dirty.
Special Events
Community events and fundraising drives occur throughout the year, including: Chocolate Lovers' Fling, Harvest Celebration, Farmers' Market, Winter Coat Drive, Pumpkin Chuckin' Festival.
Landscaping
Senior Yard Clean-Up, where elderly community members are assisted with yard work during the winter.
Board of Directors
The governing body of YGP; prospective members are voted in by existing members and have two-year terms.
