Moab Community Gardens
Moab Community Gardens (MoCom) was founded in 2017 by Becky Mann and operated for six years under the umbrella of a local nonprofit, the Resiliency Hub. When Becky moved away from Moab in early 2024, management was transferred to YGP in order to continue this important program.
MoCom’s goal is to provide land access and support local food security in Moab and Spanish Valley through the development of sustainable, organic community gardens. MoCom aims to create welcoming community spaces that are open and safe for people of all abilities and backgrounds.
Plots for the 2026 season are currently full. Please fill out the waitlist to be notified of openings.
(Note: plot space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis)
How does it work?
COST: Plots cost $60 for a full season.
SIZE: Each plot is approximately 120 sq. ft. (with slight variations).
COMMITMENT: All gardeners are required to put in 5 hours of volunteer service annually to help maintain the communal space, ideally during weekend work days. Attendance at Gardener Orientation in the spring is required for all new and returning plot holders.
PLOTS: Space is limited and offered on first-come, first-served basis.
NOTE: Gardeners at Our Village Community Center must be able to pass a background check.
New Community Garden coming to Old City Park!
The Youth Garden Project and Moab City are partnering to build a new community garden at Old City Park to house 12 garden plots. The site will be ADA-accessible, with 6 of the plots as raised beds. We are $5,000 away from our $15,000 goal for construction costs. We aim to have the garden open for the 2027 season.
Why a new community garden is important for Moab residents: (based on 2025 survey data)
- Over 110 Moab residents responded in support of the new garden.
- The majority of respondents ranked “to alleviate food costs” as the #1 benefit of having a new community garden.
-
“I think it’s a great idea, and I would love a community compost. I don’t have my own space for that.”
-
“The more fresh food access and the more folks growing the better!”
-
“That will be such an excellent location for the garden and perfect use of that park.”
